2020 PSYCHO NITRO BLAST

Updated: Oct 6, 2020

This race put on by Racetime Entertainment is exactly what the name corresponds to, PSYCHO. From the 24hour practice to the 24 hour races, it will test even the best drivers. The race is held annually at the Walters State Expo Center in White Pine TN. Boasting almost 800 entries it is something you have to see to believe.

Our PNB Started out with a crazy 16 hour drive from Oklahoma to Tennessee on Thursday Night. My Mom and Dad drove all night and we made a small stop in Nashville to eat breakfast with my Uncle Jeff, then headed back out to the track and arrived at about 7:15 am Friday Morning. After setting up our pit in the horse stall (they were nice) we settled into getting on the track as much as possible.

Take A Deep Breath and Enjoy

“I think the best thing you can do is just take a deep breath and look around, there is so much going on and so much to see. My dad on no sleep made sure I took the time to see everything, meet new people and have some fun. I think this is what made this event so fun for me” Spencer

Practice Day

This was by far the largest track I have ever been on and the line to get on the track was pretty long at times. We struggled a bit at the beginning get the buggies set up right but by around 2am Saturday morning they started feeling awesome. Had a ton of help from the Reds Racing Team getting my engines just right. That was important since they were running 7 min quals with one practice lap, meaning you needed to be able to run 8min without fuel.

(we saw a lot of drivers run out of fuel on their first qualifier)

Qualification Day

The Psycho started to show its ugly face, with getting to the hotel at around 4am and sleeping for a couple of hours it was time to get back to the track. Quals for me went throughout the day till early in the morning. I would grab some sleep in the truck when I could. My mom and dad would get me food and drinks and keep me on time during the day. I decided to run 5 classes as I really wanted to have a chance at the Iron Man of PNB. Had a pretty good day settling out with: Nitro Buggy 4th, Nitro Truggy TQ, Ebuggy 18th, 15u Ebuggy TQ and 15u Nitro Buggy 3rd.

Mains Day

Hold on tight, sleep is for the weak.”

Nitro Truggy

30mins of complete fun, first time running with the joker lane and that made things very interesting for sure. My pit man (dad) kept me up on where I was and who had used their jokers and what I needed to do. Everything came together and in the end I was able to take the top spot on the podium. It was very cool to see all my friends and family putting post on my facebook account. I have some great support for sure.

1 Spencer Klein / 2 Chris Marrant / 3 Risser Cowboy / 4 Logan Weldling / 5 Cade Burnett

15u E Buggy

Had a terrible start on both mains and spent most of my time making up ground. I would find myself loosing focus and fighting to hit my marks. This could have been a sleep thing but either way I made it through it to find a podium spot. I would end that class with the TQ and 4th overall. I was happy with that!

1 Kaden Fuller / 2 Nate Southerland / 3 James Dolan / 4 Spencer Klein / 5 Ty Payne

15u Nitro Buggy

Had a great 30min race but just made a few too many mistakes, I think this helped me for later races as I needed to be more aware of lap traffic and how much I push to get by. Learning every time I get on the track.

1 Joey Bourdon / 2 Phi Long / 3 Spencer Klein / 4 Mason Fuller / 5 Brayden Billington

Nitro Buggy

This was the last race of the event and would start at 1:30am. I had a good feel for the track as I had been on it a lot and my motors were running great. We decided to run our stops a bit longer to get out of the pit traffic. (we learned from the 15u race) That ended up paying off, we held our stop and used our last joker on the way in. We came out of the pits and found ourselves about 2 sec behind the leader. We push and he made a mistake that let me go right by with about 2 laps to go. I would hold on and end up with the win. It was a great race till the very end.

1 Spencer Klein / 2 Gary Studt / 3 Brad Dean / 4 Alex Vaughn / 5 Logan Cowik

To top it all off, I won the Iron Man of the 2020 PNB
